DEKRA has opened a Wi-Fi Alliance™ Authorized Test Laboratory (ATL) in Stuttgart, Germany, the first lab established in this key automotive industry area. The strategic location, close to multiple automotive manufacturers and suppliers, aims to support customers in having authorized Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ testing performed for their products, ensuring their high-quality, interoperability, security, and industry-agreed standards compliance.

With this new opening, the testing, inspection, and certification company DEKRA extends its global network of laboratories and now counts four labs authorized by the Wi-Fi Alliance®, located in Malaga (Spain), Guangzhou (Mainland China), Taiwan and, from now on, also in Stuttgart (Germany).
"DEKRA's new Wi-Fi laboratory in Germany underscores our dedication to endorsing technology development in the automotive sector with testing and certification solutions that foster safety and security in the mobility ecosystem. Connectivity technologies like Wi-Fi are the nerve center of advancement in automobile technology and are therefore shaping the future of mobility. In this scenario, wireless technologies are especially key in automated and connected driving, where a reliable connection is critical for seamless communication between vehicles and infrastructure", highlighted Stan Zurkiewicz, CEO of DEKRA.
In vehicles, Wi-Fi technology is used in infotainment systems, electronic control units (ECU), and digital cockpits, among other components. This wireless technology powers connectivity between systems, sensors, passengers’ devices, communication between vehicle components and external infrastructure while sending data to the Internet. Besides, Wi-Fi plays a key role in updating in-vehicle devices to the latest firmware, which contributes to preventing cybersecurity vulnerabilities, staying up-to-date with regulatory compliance, and enhancing driver and passenger safety.
Kevin Robinson, CEO of Wi-Fi Alliance: “Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ assures tested and proven interoperability among the more than 20 billion Wi-Fi® devices in use. Authorized Test Labs like DEKRA offer an invaluable service to the industry as we add 4 billion new devices each year. Wi-Fi’s role in automotive applications continues to grow, and the addition of an Authorized Test Lab in Germany – part of DEKRA’s global network of four, accredited labs – gives Wi-Fi Alliance members greater flexibility to perform certification testing in a convenient location.”
